Duke and Carolina finished the seventh annual Carlyle Cup competition tied for the first time with 13 points each. UNC retains possession of the cup by virtue of having won it in 2005-06.
The overall score was tied at the end of the 2006-07 spring regular season but remained in doubt because the schools could possibily meet in the NCAA women's lacrosse, men’s tennis and women’s tennis championships. No rematch occurred and the season series were not altered, thus the overall score finished deadlocked.
Carolina and Duke have won three Carlyle Cups apiece. The Blue Devils prevailed in 2001, 2003 and 2004. Carolina took home the cup in 2002, 2005 and 2006.
