Duke has nominated three for the TAG Heuer Trophy, given to the TAG
Heuer Most Valuable Athlete in the Carlyle Cup competition between Duke and UNC.
Junior Sean Kelly raced to the individual title at the ACC Men's Cross
Country Championships with his time of 25:00.4. The Wickliffe, Ohio
native paced the Blue Devils to the team title, Duke's first cross
country championship in the league since 1977. Kelly, like the rest of
his men's track and cross country teammates, is not on scholarship.
Sophomore Sheela Agrawal placed third at the ACC Women's Cross Country
Championships with her time of 18:15.3, to earn All-ACC honors for the
second straight season. Agrawal, a native of Swansea, Mass., led the
Blue Devils to a four-place finish, the highest ever in women's cross
country by a Duke team.
Freshman Jordan Cila scored his seventh goal of the season in the UNC
game to give the Blue Devils a 1-0 lead at the half. While UNC rebounded
for a 4-2 victory, the Jericho, New York native was the main bright spot
in the game.
More nominees will be added for the winter and spring sports as the
year-long competition continues between Duke and UNC.
The TAG Heuer Trophy is sponsored by TAGHeuer Watch Company, and the Carlyle
Cup by Carlyle & Co. jewelers.
