JASON WILLIAMS WINS TAGHeuer TROPHY
With the second year of the Carlyle Cup set to kick off and the Blue Devils in possession of the trophy after a 27-21 victory over the Tar Heels, Duke Athletics announced today that basketball All-America Jason Williams has earned the inaugural TAGHeuer Trophy Most Valuable Athlete award for the Blue Devils.

The Carlyle Cup is an annual all-sport competition between Duke and the University of North Carolina. Carlyle & Company, a Greensboro, North Carolina based jeweler with 38 stores across the country including 12 in North Carolina, has agreed to support the competition for at least three years. The annual winner retains and prominently displays the Carlyle Cup each year. The trophy is given annually to the most valuable athlete in the Carlyle Cup competition between the two schools.

As a sophomore, the Plainfield, NJ native scored 70 points in the three games with UNC this past season. Williams hit for 32 points, including six three-pointers with four assists, a block and two steals in Duke's 85-83 loss to UNC. The Duke Radio Network named Williams the TAG MVP for the game with $500 donated in his name from Tag Heuer to Duke University's general scholarship fund.

Williams netted 33 points and handed out 9 assists in the Blue Devils' 95-81 victory in Chapel Hill. He finished the three-game series with 15 points, five assists, five rebounds, and four steals in Duke's 79-53 victory in the ACC Tournament Championship game in Atlanta. The Blue Devils went on to win the National Championship in Minneapolis.

Williams was one of 15 athletes named as outstanding Duke performers in the first Carlyle Cup season series. The complete list of nominees for the TAGHeuer Trophy is listed below.

The TAGHeuer Trophy is sponsored by TAGHeuer Watch Company, and the Carlyle Cup by Carlyle & Co. jewelers.
