| Tag Heuer Trophy Nominees Now Number 10
UNC has nominated five more athletes from the winter sports season for the "Tag Heuer Trophy" given at the end of the school year to the Tag Heuer Most Outstanding Athlete in the Carlyle Cup competition between Carolina and Duke.
Earlier, five athletes from the fall sports season were nominated.
Joseph Forte is the men's basketball nominee with 24 points, 16 rebounds (a school record for guards), six assists and three steals in the Tar Heels' 85-83 win at Duke. The sophomore All-American and co-ACC Player of the Year from Greenbelt, Md., also had 21 points and four assists against Duke in Chapel Hill and 14 points, 12 rebounds and four assists in the ACC Tournament loss to the Blue Devils in Atlanta.
In women's basketball, LaQuanda Barksdale averaged 22.5 points and 15 rebounds in two narrow losses to Duke. The All-ACC senior from Winston-Salem played every minute of both games, including 45 in the first meeting that went into overtime. In the OT game, she scored 31 points (her second highest total of the season) and shot 63.2 from the field.
In UNC's 35-3 win over the Duke wrestlers, Chris Collins is the Tag Trophy nominee. The sophomore from Rock Hill, S.C., pinned Tommy Hoang in the 125-pound weight class in 3:09 to lead the Tar Heels to victory.
Dave Slawinski, a senior from East Brunswick, N.J., captured individual wins in the 200-yard breaststroke and 200-yard freestyle to lead Tar Heel men's swimmers to a 184-58 win over Duke in November. Summer Mack, a senior from Satellite Beach, Fla., swam on the winning medley relay and won the 200-yard backstroke as UNC women was 157-84.
